Dispensaries May Soon Show Up in the Neighborhood …
Right here in the Upper Haight, two zones have been designated by the San Francisco’s Office of Cannabis where retail cannabis sales would be allowable with a conditional use permit: Haight between Clayton and Cole, and Stanyan between Waller and Beulah.
Obviously, everyone pretty much knows that there are often drug deals going on around the ‘hood, but because of the proximity of two schools (Chinese Immersion and Xian Yun Academy of the Arts), legal sales were previously banned.
But the buffer zone between schools and pot dispensaries was lowered from 1000 to 600 feet by the Board of Supervisors, which creates new areas where cannabis can be sold legally.
So any of those vacant storefronts we’ve been seeing in the Upper Haight, many between Clayton and Cole, may soon be scooped up by cannabis biz folks if they can connect with owners who are willing to take that risk with their property.
At the moment, commercial rents in these greens zones run about $60/square foot, so those pot entreupreners with fat wallets could probably afford it.
